My new Ipad Air asks for passcode and I haven't set one up yet, what do I do

Actually, It is my friends that bought it yesterday for their anniversary at Target. They don't know a lot about computers so I told them I would try to google and find out what to do. So far, what I've have seen when I googled the problem, a lot of other people are having similar problem.

For comparison, I just googled "Earth is flat" and I got 198,000,000 hits.
