MY "Maps" app on my iPad2 is accessing addresses in my emails. How do I disable this?
Try Settings>Privacy>Location Services>Maps>Off.
Maps is turned off under location services. That's what iis so confusing. Not sure what else to try.
What exactly do you mean by the statement the Maps app is accessing addresses In your emails? Can you explain in some detail?
This will only prevent Maps from detecting where YOU are. I'm with Demo, what do you mean?
Are you referring to the ability to tap an address in Contacts and see in plotted on a Map. If so, the Contacts app is plotting that point on the map.
I believe if you go to the Directions screen in Maps, you'll see addresses listed as destination options. I've had users report they've never search for these destinations (and as the devices were sometimes quite new, I tend to believe them). Some of them appear to come from emails.
Meg, there is a Contacts tab in Bookmarks. All the previous searches in Recents are mine though. Though I cannot see a Setting in Setting > Privacy > Contacts to restrict this from Maps. Looks like Apple baked it in.
Yup, I know about that. Just saying that there seem to be some suggested destinations that appear to only be explained if Maps is pulling address from emails. I could well be wrong. But, it's my current theory.
I've not noticed so can't say. I'll keep an eye on it now though. Thanks for the heads-up.

It has disconcerted a few brand new iPhone users I've helped.

Your current theory is good enough for me. I may have never known this. I will keep an eye on this now as well.
I think that I have used the Apple Maps app two or three times - and I do have an iPhone. I have a Magellan and a Garmin with much larger screens that serve my purposes better than the iPhone can. Because I have been using it for much longer, and I feel like I'm more familiar with it, I prefer using Google maps on the iPad....<he said while running away and looking over his shoulder> 🙂
Yes, a friend mentions a restaurant in NYC in an email....it pops up in "Maps". I get an email mentioning the Hyatt in Philadelphia and that pops up. this is my 3rd iPhone in 4 years and i noticed it after an update a few months ago And can't seem to disable it. Verrrrry annoying, sorry Apple but I don't want you pulling addresses out of my emails.
