Voice memos: The icon does not appear anymore

I have an iPod nano 6g. I used to record voice memos with it, but one day the Voice Memos icon didn't appear again, no matter if I plug the earphones with mic in (those earphones used to work with my iPod for recording). I need that function to work, I've already connected my iPod to iTunes for resetting it. Help!
