Messages (iMessage) doesn't want to let me log in

Hi.

I have a trouble with my MBP 4.1 under OS X 10.9.4 (Mavericks) :

I want to use iMessage on my mac, as I already use it on my iPhone 5, but Messages doesn't want to let me log in ...

After writing my Apple ID and password, then submitting, I always have the annoying message "Your Apple Id "xxxxx" can't be used to set up iMessage at this time" (in fact, I'm french, so it's "Votre identifiant Apple "xxxxx" ne peut pas être utilisé pour configurer iMessage à l'heure actuelle").

iCloud is set up on my MBP with this ID, my iPhone is already using it without any trouble, I can buy anything on the store ... eveything seems to be ok, but iMessage doesn't want to work on my Mac, and it's annoying !

Can anybody help, please ?

Thanks a lot

Hello, and first of all, thank you for answering.

I already found the 1st topic you gave me, but this solution didn't work for me (my MBP was already authorized ...)

The 2nd topic was better ... I changed my password, and erased every other alternative contacts ... and I could login into Messages ... 🙂

I was happy ... until I tried to send a message ... and then I saw that iMessage was inactive 😐

After that, I closed Messages, then retried to log in ... and same problem.

I don't know what's going on 😠

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Are you talking about this ? :

"I had the same issue after updating from Lion to Mountain Lion. Apple care had no clue. So, I figured it out. I have one account for iTunes/Puchase call it itunes@hotmail.com and another for iCloud, call it icloud@me.com.

On my iphone, under the Settings | Messages, I had only the phone number as a way to be reached fro messages. So, I added my icloud@me.com address. Then went back to my mac and BINGO! I was able to logon to iMessage.

Not sure I understand exactly why, but it worked: so make sure that your iPhone/iPad allows to receive messages to that email address too!"

If yes, I already checked, but I already have my iPhone allowed to receive messages to the mail address too ; I tried to disallow it too, but nothing different ...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”

While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.

Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?

After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

I had a similar problem, and here is what finally solved it for me. I don't know if it'll work for you, but it's worth trying.

1. Make the time zone on the Mac not automatic (but correct to your time and zone), and change something in that pref. pane so that it overwrites the old prefs file.

2. Log out of iMessages, iCloud, etc., on your iOS devices

3. Un-associate your Apple ID with your computer user login (in System Preferences > Users and Groups).

4. Sign out of iCloud on your Mac.

5. Reboot.

6. Re-associate your Apple ID with your user login. If you see a caution icon next to it, double-click. Should disappear.

7. Launch iMessages and attempt to log in.

8. Then log in to iCloud via System Preferences > iCloud

If that doesn't work, do these steps, then go back to # 1, above.
9. Delete all the Apple tokens and keys in the Keychain (might break some other things--may be why I can't log in via Safari right now).

10. Reinstall Mavericks/OS X.

11. Repeat steps 1–8.
