Vision Accessibility

I have a vision problem and I need to increase the overall size (not just magnify a small portion at a time) of the desktop display on my MacBook Pro.

I accomplished this on my desktop and my older MacBook through the display preferences options. I cannot do this on my new laptop - there are limited choices on the resolution options. Is there anything that I can do? Help!!
