My lexmark 3600-4600 series printer is not discoverable on my macbook pro unless connected with a wire. Help?

I just got a new macbook pro that is running Mavericks. I am trying to connect my lexmark printer (x4650) and it will NOT show up on my discoverable printers in the system preferences unless it is plugged into the printer. I have downloaded all of the drivers and have used the wireless set up assistant and it is still not working. Help please?

  • Open terminal
  • Type ping <printer IP address> replacing <printer IP address> with the actual IP address of your printer..
  • Hit ctrl-c to stop the ping process.

If you get something like this, it should be ok:

$ ping 10.0.1.15

PING 10.0.1.15 (10.0.1.15): 56 data bytes

64 bytes from 10.0.1.15: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.060 ms

64 bytes from 10.0.1.15: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.088 ms

64 bytes from 10.0.1.15: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.120 ms

64 bytes from 10.0.1.15: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.064 ms

If you get something like the following, there is a problem:

$ ping 192.168.0.1

PING 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1): 56 data bytes

Request timeout for icmp_seq 0

Request timeout for icmp_seq 1

Request timeout for icmp_seq 2

Request timeout for icmp_seq 3
