I have iPhoto. Should I buy Aperture?

I have a 27 inch iMac. new this year. 10.9.4, 8GB memory, with 959.91 storage free. I want to move my photos from a back-up to this computer. I was planning on going to Aperture as it holds so many more photos than iPhoto. I understand that Mac is dropping Aperture. Should I buy it? and will it be easy to convert to what ever Mac comes out with at a later date? Thanks, Mary

If you purchase Aperture now, you will be able to migrate your existing Aperture libraries to Photos for OS X. But keep in mind, Photos comes with OS X Yosemite will will be available some time this fall which is not that far off. Considering Aperture is $79.99, save your $$ and wait for Photos in OS X Yosemite.
