I just bought a macbook pro last week and safari was working fine until now. When I try to click on something or type something in it automatically redirects me to an ad website where I am forced to exit safari and when I try again the same thing keeps happening. Is this a virus? Ho can I fix it?
See if that matches any malware. and then if it does remove it.
Adware does not sneak onto your Mac in the dead of night.
You have to allow it to install on your Mac. So if you find you have adware, you have not been cautious enough. So called "Virus Protection" will not help here. You need to be far more cautious.
Please post a screenshot that shows what you mean. Be careful not to include any private information.

Adware might not, but if this is being caused by a hacked wireless router or other network compromise, that certainly could happen suddenly, in the dead of night, with no user interactions whatsoever.
