I have deleted tons of files. Securely emptied trash, yet disk space has been freed up. Help.
How to free up disk space? I've deleted files and emptied trash - still no more disk space.

What files did you delete? Word documents don't take up much space. Movies, videos, music, and pictures are usually considered the space hoggers.
So, what does the Finder > File menu (under Apple) > About my Mac > more info > Storage tab look like?

babowa is right, lotsa little files may not appear to release space.
However, if you deleted videos and/or lotsa pictures, you should notice a difference.
If the latter is what you did, restart your device (you dont say what that is)) and then see if there is noticeable difference.
That often happens to me, so I don't think much of it.

Restart your Mac then check disk space.
You may notice a difference in available space statistics between Disk Utility, Finder, and Get Info inspectors. This is expected and can be safely ignored. The Finder displays the available space on the disk without accounting for the local snapshots, because local snapshots will surrender their disk space if needed.
Unless what you're deleting are sensitive files, there's no reason to use Secure Delete. It takes a lot longer since it overwrites the space the files occupied seven times with random data, but does not in any way result in more free space.
