10.9.5 update causing issues with wi-fi?

Since I took the 10.9.5 wi-fi update, instead of a "Wi-fi" fix, the situation has deteriorated to the extent that I now have to manually select my network each time I come back from a restart or sleep mode. I did not have this issue before this update. Anyone else having the same concern?

Well, there is no 10.9.5 update which may explain your problem. 😁


Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:


1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM

b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)


2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:


Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the

COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the

computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager

screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.


3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.


When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.


Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).


4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.


Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.


Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.

1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked

Remember networks this computer has joined

is checked.

2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading

Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet

3. Reset the PRAM.

4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.

5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.

6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.

7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.

8. Turn off Bluetoothand test.

9. Reset the System Management Controller.

10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.

Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked

Wake for Wi-Fi network access

and

Enable Power Nap...

if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck

Enable Power Nap...

11. Reinstall OS X.

I have the same issue - I have Apple TV streaming from my Mac Pro and randomly starts stuttering and then loses my connection to the iTunes library. But Apple TV works fine via Wifi for the internet. I tried a cabled connection from Mac to router and it resolved the stuttering but this shows an issue with the Mac now finding the wifi. From time to time it suddenly loses wifi signal - even though it can see the router it cant connect until I reset everything.

This only happened once I did the last update to fix a so called wifi bug - but it gave me one instead!

Even when Im on the internet - I suddenly get DNS resolving issues and find out the wifi has dropped even though it shows connected- so its not even when its in sleep mode.

My mac at times cant even pick up my wifi range from where its always been - yet all my other apple devices can.

Please let us know if you try Kappy and/or Linc fixes and what results you get. I went through all of the steps trying to fix the wifi issue when I had problems with 10.9.2. Being a little inept in the world of computers, it took me some hours. And the steps didn't work.

Then along came 10.9.4 - and it fixed them 🙂 !!! for 5 days 😟 .

I really do not want to spend hours following all of the helpful instructions and getting no result again, so I hope someone will test the steps and maybe, just maybe, this time one part of the multiple instructions will fix the issue.

after updating to 10.9.5 (and server 3.2.1) wifi on my mbp stopt working: the "radar" in the menu bar would "run", then show "!" and restart running again. this would loop forever. i tried all the suggestions here but nothing worked till i had a bright moment and checked "internet sharing" which was turned on. turned it off and all was fine again!

The same was happening on both my MacBook Pro and Air laptops after updating yesterday. There was no automatic connection to my home's wi-fi after sleep or restart. I could connect if I chose "Join another network", but not if I chose the network from the list of networks available on the wifi drop-down menu (on the menubar upper right on your screen). I would get the following message: "was previously joined as WPA/WPA2 Personal, not WEP". It was as if the computers wanted to login as WEP each time, even though my Lynksis wifi has been set to WPA/WPA2 Personal for a a few years and always worked. What ended up being the fix was:


-- changing the name and password for the network on the router, along with switching to just WPA2 Personal.

-- After that was set. I chose my network from the available networks given in the wifi drop-down menu (on the menubar upper right on your screen). I was then prompted to provide WPA2 Personal password. I was back in. Everything now works fine on both computers. They reconnect automatically.


It was most likely the security setting, but changing the name and password didn't hurt the process. You can try this fix first without changing name and password, but make sure to delete the saved home network from network preferences (go to menubar and click on WIFI symbol, click Open Network Preferences. The Advanced, and just delete your saved home network with the - button).
