Why can't I install Flash Player?

I have been trying to install the latest Adobe Flash Player on my 2008 MacBook Pro running OS 10.9.3 (Mavericks) with Safari v.7.0.4 My first try ended with an error message, "Error has been encountered. Close this window and try downloading again." After a couple of tries I went to the Adobe troubleshooting page which suggested that the older version be uninstalled and then install the latest version. This did not work either. What should I try next?

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.

Select: Allow Plus-Ins

Then click: Manage Website Settings ...

See if Adobe.com shows up on the right. If so, click Allow fro the pop up menu on the right.

If you don't see Adobe.com, reinstall Flash > http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=KLXMF

If you still have problems, update your Mac OS X software to v10.9.4 which will in turn update Safari to 7.0.5

Click Software Update from your Apple  menu top left in your screen, OR, open the App Store then select Updates from the menu top of the App Store window.

Then reinstall Flash.
