How can I lock a clip to storyline, timeline or song in Final Cut Pro?

Just drag the clip and position it above the timeline where it will become attached.

You can then drag it backwards and forwards to get it lined up perfectly.

It will help if you also zoom into the timeline so you can see each frame.

to expand on Ian's answer. When I edit music videos I (usually) put the music track in the main storyline. I know that's not moving or going anyway. Then I cut the pictures over the top as Connected clips. They are then 'locked' in place in sync and don't move.

(the kids are my son's team)

• I drag the original into the storyline
• I set Markers (keyboard: m) to the original edit-points
• I have the pre-selections of my material in the Events browser, set edit-mode to 'video only'/shift-2
• set playhead to marker (magnetic is a good help), hit q
• 'fine tune' the edit (edit/colors/effects/...)
• select clip and cmd-shift-arrow-down to apply final edit to the storyline
• jump to next marker (ctrl-' )

That is a very fast way to 'dub' professional edits; and: I'm learning a lot, e.g. it is not only the edit-points, but the 'content' which makes a good edit 'flow' (which lacks my version) ...😁
