Hi, I did a clean install on my mothers old imac 5.2 operating on Tiger, unfortunately the install disc was damaged and I was unable to either complete the installation ( it gets 79% of the way through then fails) or restore the original OS. I just get the flashing ?/file icon.

Apple kindly sent me 2 new Tiger installation discs from the States but I cannot boot from them. I have tried all Mac key combos that I know. I can access disc utilities on the old OS disc. Any ideas? Patrick

I have a mac keyboard and mouse.

Insert the Mac OS Installer disc in the drive.

Go to: Apple > System Preferences > Start Up Disc

click on the Tiger install disc then click restart

When I have the new Tiger start up disc in I get nothing other than the flashing question mark file icon. I cant get the Apple menu. I can change start up on the old damaged OS disc but that's no good.

Thats what you need to do.

Boot from the existing disk then go to system preferences and set the new install disc to start up from

So I can boot from the original disc, but when I go to the start up menu obviously the new install disc I was sent isn't there. Just original HD and Old OS disc. I have tried ejecting Old OS and inserting new one but it wont eject.

Actually I tell a lie I have 2 options in Start up disc menu. Old damaged install disc or network start up

If you have a reasonable network connection, start up from network to allow you to boot from the new install disc using; system preferences > start up
