Itunes Match crashes on step1 and rarely goes to step 3 to upload new songs on Windows 8.1

This happened with windows 7 also. I have quite a large music collection also but I don't see this being an issue? This has been happening for at least a year now and my subscription is be renewed in 20 days time and I'm loathed to if this cannot be corrected.
