Autopunch on MIDI tracks doesn't create takes properly

While autopunching on audio tracks creates a new take which is combinable with the original one take, in MIDI it creates a new take which cannot be combined with the original one. It is either the old take (by clicking ont it), or the new take (clicking on it activates it and deactivates the full original take). Very annoying. Is this a bug or am I missing out on something? I tried several project recording settings already.
