VGA/Screen Malfunction with iMovie

Hi Guys, I seem to have a screen/VGA malfunction everytime I open iMovie or try use apps which rely on video creation/conversion. Attached is an image of what is happening. The problem goes away only after I reboot and do a PRAM purge. Any thoughts?
