bought ipad 2 with simcard already inside

I just bought a new ipad 2 from ebay which was advertised as brand new. The iPad came in original packaging. I checked the warranty period and it does start on the day I got it. One thing that bothers me is that it already had a sim card inside. How is this possible? Can a new iPad come with sim card already inside the device?

Yes, the cellular models do include a SIM card which will be from the carrier that the iPad is tied to (Verizon, A T & T, etc). This is how the cellular models connect to the internet (in addition to Wi-Fi). Activation of the cellular aspect of the iPad is not free however...you still need to activate it with the associated carrier.
