160gb ipod classic won't sync since update to 11.2.2, system wants to wipeout all current info on device

same has happened to me, on and off, for the last 6 months. Its an issue with the Mavericks system and ipod classics. works great for a while - then one day for no reason - erases the entire iPod. some days the copmputer will not recognize the iPod and you have to start over. Apple will tell you that "you" may have a disc problem in the device. that is all the help I have received.
