my mail program keeps saying quit and rebuild index but it doesn't do it, Tried several times to rebuild from Mail app and the Quit and Rebuild message.
The index is not a function of Mail, but rather of Spotlight. Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Spotlight, and make sure that the hard drive is not in the Privacy section. If it is not, then add it there, and remove it, and go to the Spotlight menu (in the upper right) every few minutes until it finishes saying that it is indexing. Once it is done, Mail should be searchable.
