Deleting an iCloud back-up

If you back up your phone then it breaks and you get a new one then use iCloud restore to get all you apps back etc then you want to back up the new phone but don't have enough storage is it ok to delete the old back up or will this delete all your apps etc off your new phone that you just restored from you old phone ?
