My inbox empties!!

I have my iCloud emails come into my 'Mail' inbox on my Mac. All iCloud emails are synced to my Mac (Mail), on iCloud when I log on and my iPhone.

Suddenly all my emails have disappeared from my inbox on my Mac and therefore, as they are all syncing, have disappeared from my iPhone and the inbox when I log onto iCloud!

This is a serious problem as there are many very important emails I've now lost!!!

It would suggest that there's some box ticked somewhere in settings to delete the inbox every so often but no, no there isn't..

Any ideas why this is happening anyone?

Thanks in advance.

We are seeing other reports of missing emails. I suspect it might be some bug on the server. You need to report it to Apple Feedback so it can be logged and put in the queue to be fixed.

In the mean time...

Check in the Archive folder to see if they are missing or if they were just moved from the Inbox.

You might want to forward your messages to another account as backup. You can setup a Gmail or Outlook.com account if you don't have a second account.

Forward all messages automatically

  1. In iCloud Mail, choose Preferences from the Action pop-up menu in the sidebar.
  2. In the General pane, select “Forward my email to,” then type the forwarding address in the text field.
  3. If you don’t want to store a copy of each forwarded message in iCloud, select “Delete messages after forwarding.”
Keep in mind that storing copies of forwarded messages decreases your available iCloud storage space.
  4. Click Done.

Thanks for your reply.

I have recently changed my email address over to iCloud which was a very complex business only to find that my iCloud inbox 'self empties' into oblivion! It doesn't empty into 'Trash' or anything but disappears literally into oblivion!!

I don't need to tell you what a serious issue this is as my phone and my iCloud account all sync together and therefore these emails are ALL lost together, forever, or so I believe.

It kind of defeats the object, if you have to back-up everything all the time and makes a mockery of the iCloud system as it's 'frighteningly' unreliable. You put your trust in this 'virtual cloud' to safeguard your 'virtual electronic life' and it basically doesn't!

Thankfully my other documents I back-up onto an external drive and haven't used iCloud for that!!!

Thanks again..

Remove Mail from the devices connecting to your iCloud email. Try sending from iphone or ipad. Do the messages disappear now? If yes, this indicates a problem on the server. If no, this indicates Mail.

Verify that there are no rules set up on any device including your browser. Log into https://www.icloud.com/ and check for Rules.

If the problem went away when Mail was not connecting, eliminate Mail by testing in Postbox and MailMate. Both have demos.

I agree this is not acceptable. I'm not sure why some users are being affected and not everyone. These types of problems are always the hardest to fix.
