Faulty RAM or Mavericks problem?

So I've been running 10GB of RAM (8+2 I know is bad but it worked flawlessly) on my 13" Macbook 9,2 and it was running fine. I went out to Best Buy to get a second matched stick so I'd have 16GB since everyone says it is supported. I put it in and it works flawlessly also, but thats until I tried doing any kind of gaming on it for more than 15 minutes. These are games that worked fine with 10 and even 8 GB of RAM the day before and now they are blue screening my Macbook on Windows and shutting down in OS X because of a problem. Sometimes it actually gives me an error message in Windows if the game crashes and it says "Intel HD driver has crashed and restarted itself". If I get a blue screen it says either "Kmode_Exception_not_handled", "Kernel_security_check_failure", or "System_service_exception". Here is the log of when it crashed in OS X today:

So any help would be appreciated as I don't know if I should return the Dimm and get a new one, or just go back to using only 10GB.

Hi,

The easiest way to check if your MacBook Pro supports 16GB of RAM is to visit Crucial.com. The system scanner can detect your system and any available upgrades, as well as tell you how much RAM is already installed.

If you don’t want to use the scanner -

  1. Click on the Apple logo in the toolbar.
  2. Click on “About this Mac”
  3. Then Click on “More Info…”

This will show the MacBook Pro year and model, such as 15-inch MacBook Pro early 2011. You can then use this information on Crucial or another site to figure out the type of memory your Macbook Pro takes.

A 13" 2012 MBP will support 16 GB RAM. The problem you may be encountering is that Macs have a reputation for being very selective when it comes to RAM. Even with the 'correct' specifications, some brands of RAM will not work in a Mac.

I would return the module to Best Buy and order from OWC or Crucial. They are the most reliable vendors of Mac compatible RAM.

Ciao.

Yeah it says 16 GB and in the system information it says both dimms are working properly. I've even used final cut pro and used pretty much every application I have without a hiccup. The thing is this only happens when I play games for more than 15 minutes and it's never happened before I upgraded. I'm currently testing the new dimm to see if its just this dimm or what. With the old 8GB dimm games ran perfectly fine as I once played for almost 6 hours without a hitch.
