siri syes free and navigation

Thinking ahead of my next car that will most likely have siri eyes free. When using Siri to find a place, does the Apple system integrate with the car's GPS, and then the car's GPS takes over, or is the Apple system independent and it uses my cell phone, but just shows the map on the car's screen? I'm concerned about data usage on long trips.
