My macbook pro cant connect to the internet at all

I got an old macbook pro from a friend in factory mode a couple of days ago.

It did connect to the wi-fi and i updated the OS to Mavericks, the day after my wi-fi didnt work on my mac.

I checked online a bit about adding it to the network preference under system preferences but it didn't work and I cant even see the wi-fi option on my menu bar.

Did this problem happen to you before and can you help me with this?
