Port connections

I backup my 2009 13" Macbook via the firewire 400 port to an Iomega disk drive. I am going to purchase a new (2014) Macbook Pro 13" Retina. I believe Apple makes a Thunderbolt to firewire800 cable. Can I use the Migration Assistant over this link with a firewire800/400 adapter or do I have to purchase the Thunderbolt to Ethernet cable and go that route?
