Run script on logout without using logout hook

I understand how to create a plist so launchd will do whatever I want when an user/users login through the console, but what to do when same user decides to logout? It seems this would be the perfect case for using logout hooks, but the docs I found said they are deprecated but offer no replacement. What to do?

Depreciated doesn't mean the technology doesn't work. Logout or Shutdown should happen without a delay from a user initiated application. Attempt to fulfill your requirement at login or periodically.
