First, testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.

CREATE A NEW USER

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

Open MAS

Do you still see the issue?

If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.

Delete Mac App Store (MAS) cache files:

Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)

Quit the App Store

In Finder - Go>Go to folder... (or Apple-shift-G)

Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "

It will take you to the User's Library Caches folder.

Delete com.apple.appstore

Launch the App Store.

Thanks to Eric Root for these steps.

If yes, then the problem is with your base files. We'll look at options if this is a base level issue.

If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:

1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:

  • open the Terminal application.

  • copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:

defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true

followed by Enter.

  • launch App Store, login.

2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:

3 - try again.

Or you might have a corrupted preference file and/or cache so try moving the com.apple.appstore folder from your Home/Library/Containers folder to the desktop and move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from your Home/Library/Preference folder to the Desktop.

Launch App Store again and see if there's any improvement.
