Error message "auto duplexer is not installed" after a paper jam was removed on my epson artisan 837.

I print from a Macbook Pro (April '09) OSX 10.9.3 to an Epson Artisan 837 duplex all-in-one which has been functioning perfectly for some time. The other day while duplex printing I got a vague error message to the effect "printer error, turn off machine and power back on." I repeated that process several times waiting a period of time and/or doing it speedily. I even unplugged the printer from its outlet, turned off the computer, waited overnight and tried again, all to no avail. I then found the back tray had a paper jam which I removed and replaced the tray. Since this ordeal I have NOT been able to use the duplex function. After apple's air-print, an Epson Customer Service person told me to add a printer in Systems, printer preferences and to simply add in the same printer (only one i have) but choose not to have it be air-print. This worked even though it gave me Epson Artisan 837 and Epson Artisan 837II (the first with air-print the second not). I must be missing some step this time, however, because although I now have essentially 2 printer choices, the Epson II has duplex printing choices grayed out and gives me the error message "auto duplexer is not installed." Sorry to make this so long, but can anyone help me with this problem?

Wow, I JUST NOW got my Epson to correctly print on BOTH sides!! I had the error "duplexer not installed" after who knows exactly what - the paper jam, the long overdue upgrade to 10.10.4, the Printer update that applied itself... I'm so used to all of my Apple products 'just working', too!

So I looked up the directions to DELETE the printer (from Apple, System Preferences/PrintersScanners- then used the '-' key to remove it). Then I used the '+' key to (hopefully) add the Epson printer back in.

To my surprise, TWO devices appeared. The first one showed Bonjou Multifunction. The second one showed the Epson name. I picked the Epson and crossed my fingers.

IT WORKED!!! I hope this also works for anyone having current issues!!! Good luck!

hey! just got back from a road trip and found this in my email. thank you for taking the time to respond to my "problem".

i did exactly as you suggested but did not get two choices of printers... i did, however, get the choice to use air print

or not. i am on a macbook pro 17" 2009 yosemite 10.10.4. i now have two printers largely due to the fact that with

OS updates i lost the "auto duplexer" choice. i still however, use the epson artisan 837, and would like to have its

functions returned to me, but alas, deleting it and reinstalling it did not return that function. my epson is using driver

version 9. options include only thick paper and envelopes, skip blank page, quiet mode, high speed printing and

warning notifications. perhaps you can see where i might be going wrong from these facts? again, much appreciate

your responding and hooray for your success.
