unauthorized to play music

I'm trying to play music on my Macbook and I continue to receive the dialogue window requesting a password from an account I had with a service provider years ago. Needless to say, I no longer have the password. I tried to enter my present iTunes account information into the dialogue window and select the authorize button but I still can't play a song because the dialogue window prompts me again for the old credentials. Obviously, I can't deauthorize the old account because I don't have the password.
