Q: Issues after Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28) upgrade

So disappointed.  I left PC for Mac to get away from upgrades.  Now, its happening to my MAC.

I upgraded to Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28) last night and now my Macbook Pro is slow at best.

Issues:

*First I got locked out of the computer on initial reboot after the upgrade.   Fortunately, a reboot fixed that for now, but what if it happens again?  I know my password but it would not accept it.

*Second, the boot up after putting the computer to sleep is slower than ever.

*I use Google Chrome as my browser, now that is significantly slower than before and it has locked up twice.  I am a grad student and my online classroom doesn't function correctly with Safari.

*Finder locked up....endless beach ball.  Couldn't even "force quit" had to wait for it to give up on its own.

Please Apple, tell me a fix for the fix is coming to return my MacBook to its normal powerful self.  Any suggestions would be wonderful.

I have a MacBook Pro, 2.9 ghz Intel Core i7 with 8GB of Ram.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Even though Mavericks will run on older computers, often updates will adversely impact older computers. I would stick with 10.9.3 for now if it's stable for you.

When using your Mac in a work environment, it's best to test out an upgrade first on another partition or sandbox before upgrading your current install.

SuperDuper has a feature called a sandbox. If you have the space to add a sandbox partition, this would allow you to upgrade and test safely.

A Sandbox is a bootable copy of your system, stored on another hard drive or partition, that shares your personal documents and data with the original. In the past, you might have stored this copy away in a drawer as a backup. With SuperDuper, you actually use the Sandbox as your startup volume.

You can safely install any system updates, drivers or programs in the Sandbox, without worrying about what might happen to your system. If anything goes wrong, you can simply start up from the original system. SuperDuper has preserved it in its original, pre-disaster state – but all your new and changed personal documents are totally up to date. Within minutes, you’re up and running again – without having to go through a difficult and time-consuming restore process.

    Hope this helps!

For Camera Problem in OSX 10.9.4. Please follow as per below

The fix in this case is to force-quit the VDCAssistant process, so relevant programs can again launch it normally and establish connections to the webcam. To do this, you will need to perform the following steps:

    1. Quit the program using the camera.
    2. Open Terminal and run the following command (supply your password when prompted, but remember it will not show)
sudo killall VDCAssistantYou can optionally open Activity Monitor to perform this step, by selecting "All Processes" from the View menu, then searching for and force-quiting the "VDCAssistant" process.
    3. Now re-launch your program and try using the camera again.

There is supposed to be a "Use audio port for" in the Input section of Sound Preferences...but it doesn't appear at all actually. What's wrong?

Having similar problems to Mr J15 - since installing 10.9.4, keep getting the networksetup window that asks me to give my password and then refuses to recognise it - have attached the etre report, if that clarifies

Just curious...I have had, and used Mackeeper for 3 years with no problems...My system ran fine with 10.9.3 as well as every iteration before from snow leopard...How is it that with the latest update is effected by this program when that earlier version weren't?
