ANYWAY i can get old pictures back? I have important childrens growing up photos
Restore your last backup. That will include your camera roll photos. This explains how to restore an iCloud backup: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud.
My last back up says March, but that would erase 95% of the picture I've taken since then. Updating my phone gave me no other choice but to restore to factory settings.
P.S. when I restored from the March backup all my contacts came back, even the ones just recently entered.

I though you said you backed up your phone before restoring it. Did you?
it made me both back it up and reset it.
Did you check for a current backup in both iTunes and in iCloud? To check your most recent iTunes backup, go to iTunes Preferences (on the Edit menu if you're running Windows)>Devices and check the Backups list. To check your most recent iCloud backup, go to Settings>iCloud, sign into your iCloud account, then go to Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the backup and check the Latest Backup field.
My device backups has two things, the backup from march and one that says july 10. when i restored to the july 10 one it was just everything i had since march and not actually July tenth
What is it you want to do at this point? You could restore the older backup, import the recovered photos to your computer, then go back and restore the July 10th backup to recover your recent data again if that's what you want to do.
which I have tried to do but the July backup seems to just be the March backup again. Also I have my phone set to automatically sync wwith my computer and it factory reset after I plugged it in
Oh, I though you said it contained "everything I had since March", not that it was a duplicate of the March backup. And I assume the March backup doesn't contain the old photos you are looking for. If that's the case, and you don't have another backup, either in iCloud on in iTunes, then unfortunately there isn't anything to restore them from.
Very correct. Is it a lost cause at this point?
It would seem so. The only way to recover photos is from a backup that contains them. You can only get back photo stream photos from the last 30 days from iCloud, unless they are in a shared stream, which remain in iCloud indefinitely.
For future reference, the best thing to do is always import them to your computer (iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer), then back them up on an external drive so you know they're safe.
