I wish to transfer my photos to another hard drive from my macbook that pro is in target mode (it's acting like an external hard drive attached to my iMac). Where are those photos?
At the top level is a folder named "Users." Inside that is a subfolder with the name of your user account. Inside that, "Pictures," and inside that, "iPhoto Library."
If you are using iPhoto and if you have a managed library then by default your photos are in the Photo library in the pictures folder in your user account
If you are not using these then they are where you put them
