why is my iPhoto library so big?

Why is my iPhoto library so big? It says it is over 30 GBs and I'm pretty sure I don't have nearly 30 GBs of pictures in there. Can anyone shed some light on this? Also my iPhone says that I have had thousands of pictures on my phone, but I only have a couple dozen. Does my iPhone download and store all of my icloud files in its storage?

simple answer is that your iPhoto library size depends on the number of photos and size of those photos - how many photos do you have> What version of iPhtoo? Of the OS? how large is a typical photo?

as to iCloud - no photos are stored in iCloud (except your IOS device backups) - iCloud today is a way to share photos - not store them

For iPhone questions it is best to ask in the iPhone forum
