i have upgraded garageband but appear to have lost all my existing music

i have installed the latest version of garageband having been using version 6 but it appears all my existing music has disappeared. i am unable to open version 6. i am inclined to believe that this is more a matter of my lack of computer skills than anything else but can anyone enlighten me?
