Recent Macbook Air Update All itunes music gone

Just downloaded new software update for MacBook Air and ALL music has been deleted from itunes except three albums. All music still on iphone.

Which new software are you referring to?

You can transfer music from the iPhone to your Mac > The specified item was not found.

OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks which included an updated itunes to 11.3

There should be a law that no computer should be sold without a backup drive. Installing a new system without backing up first is like rock climbing without health insurance.
