iCloud storage issue: says full but I've deleted everything!

Hi all

I got a message saying that my iCloud storage is almost full. So I checked to see what was taking up so much as I don't use it a lot. However it appeared that I was using 2.3G in email. This seemed very unlikely, but I went to my email and deleted almost every one. I then emptied the trash and junk mail folders. However the amount of storage available on iCloud hasn't changed at all. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do now?
