Apple lighting cable no longer recognized.

After upgrading my iPad mini to OS 7.1.2 it no longer recognizes my lightning cable. It is the cable that came with the mini. The cable also is no longer recognized by my iPhone 5S. The cable had worked on both devices prior to yesterday. Any suggestions?

I Have phone apple and a replacement cable is coming. I think the upgrade was not involved. It turns out neither my iphone 5s or husband's iPhone 5 would recognize the cable either ( I have not yet upgraded the 5s. Since the mini was still under warranty they are replacing the cable for free. I was told there is a chip in the cable that must have been corrupted. This cable has had a very easy life so that amazes me, but go figure. Thank you for responding.
