Jul 12, 2014 10:34 AM in response to Mac McUser50by BDAqua,I think the problem may be the new Advanced Format on newer HDDs, which only 10.4.11 & up can handle, & no 10.4 Install Disc came with 10.4.11.
Another is SATA speed, G5s need SATA 1.5 Gb/s, some drives step down & others don't, if a WD drive you might try a jumper on pins 5&6.
As a test, I'd disconnect the Internal drive & see if it still KPs booting from your Install Disc.

Jul 13, 2014 2:53 PM in response to BDAquaby Mac McUser50,I set the speed to 1.5 GB/s, but had no luck. When I disconnected the hard drive and booted, I still got a Kernel Panic. Would it work if I bought a Leopard install disc? Anyways, here are the specs of my HD: Maxtor Model 7V300F0F, 300 GB. Also, the last version it was running was 10.5.8.

Jul 13, 2014 3:44 PM in response to Mac McUser50by BDAqua,I can't find any specs on that drive, do you have a link?
Sounds like we have some other problem, what is the 2z691-****-A number on the Install Disc?

Jul 13, 2014 4:21 PM in response to BDAquaby Mac McUser50,The number on the disc is 0Z691-5228-A. Sorry, I had a typo in my model#. It's 7V300F0.

Jul 14, 2014 11:52 AM in response to Mac McUser50by BDAqua,Looks like that is too early of version for G5, likely 10.4.0...
Re: G5 Grey screen (Kernel Panic) when booting from CD
If you don't know the model, find the Serial# & use it on one of these sites, but don't post the Serial# here...

How to find the serial number of your Apple hardware product...

Then we can tell what minimum OS your G5 can take.

Jul 16, 2014 10:40 AM in response to BDAquaby Mac McUser50,I found A1117/A1177. It says PM G5/DC 2.3/1GB/250GB/SD/GF6600 underneath the serial number.

Jul 16, 2014 11:22 AM in response to Mac McUser50by BDAqua,★HelpfulOK, that's a Late 2005 G5...
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g5/specs/powermac_g5_dual_2.3.htm l
Pre-Installed MacOS: X 10.4.2 (8E90) Maximum MacOS: X 10.5.8 So, If that Install Disc is in fact 10.4.0 as I suspect, then it won't work for your G5... no drivers.
I can only see a couple of options at this point...
1. A newer Install Disc.
2. An older Mac & a Firewire drive to install it to, update to 10.4.11, move FW drive to G5.
