Q: where are the old release/developer notes for Apple hardware?

Can’t even find the ones for MODERN hardware now that Apple have reorganized their website yet again, apparently going to great lengths to prevent it from being saved for posterity by archive sites and people who maintain mirrors of old software and documentation after they are no longer provided officially. But I digress.

I am specifically searching for any documentation of the Mac Classic II expansion header. I have a PDF copy of the so-called developers’ note for the Classic II, but all it gives is the pinout. It doesn’t make any mention of important details like how fast the ROMs can be, either on the expansion header or on the motherboard. As the motherboard supports having larger ROMs fitted but comes with appallingly slow 150-ns 27C010s, this is important information. Also, the 27C080 is pin-compatible with the 27C010, but the largest replacement officially allowed is a 27C040. Why?

I've had the same experience. I had a lot of great bookmarks for DNs that have now gone walkabout.

I don't think you'll find an answer in this forum. Might try the Developers forum to see if anyone knows. However, I suspect you'll end up on a non-Apple site to find anything--try finding a updater for OS 9 on the Apple site. You get something like this page:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1387

and, when you click the "download" link, you get routed back to the support main page. Apple is apparently embarassed by its heritage.
