new mac pro loads slow

new mac pro usually loads instantly when i press power button but then i attached my external hard drive to it (lacie 3tb) which i turned into my home directory, i still have the whole system start up disc set on the hard drive the mac pro came with (3.7 ghz quad core intel xeon e5) so I'm not too sure whats causing the slow start up, it'll sit with spinning dial on screen loading for over 20/30 seconds, instead of the quick 2/3 seconds start up that was happening with this guy, any help much appreciated

The spinner is just there to entertain you while mac OS X starts up. A whole raft of information goes by.

You can dig it out of logs, or you can just hold down Command-v at startup and see if it hangs at anything interesting.

turns out one of my external hard drives fried or died, whatever the term is, lost data and it was trying to do something off of that, took out drive and works perfect

Some Users here swear that the interface cards in those enclosures are really failure-prone, and that often the drive can be fine but the Interface card died.

Of course, your mileage may vary.
