Flash is integrated in Chrome but not Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Under Updates click: Check Now

There is no Flash Player in Safari system preferences. I want YouTube to play in Safari.
Ok... which OS X is installed?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
The version is noted there.
You were not clear whether it was Apple System Preferences, or Safari Preferences. It was Apple System, but I still got an error message in YouTube when trying to play the piece. After clicking check-now.
For clarification, I said: Open System Preferences (That does not refer to Safari Preferences)
Again, before I can help you, I need to know exactly which OS X is installed?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
The version is noted there.
Troubleshooting Flash depends on that information.
Running Mavericks. Had to update from Apple system preferences, restart Safari and then lower the band-width of the YouTube player, it then worked. Chrome could play using a higher band-width. Interesting. It now works, but it was a bit convoluted to get there. Thanks. I would recommend that when you say system preferences, you should say Apple System Preferences. Just makes it a bit easier. Thanks
Glad it's working for you and thanks for the tip!
