Calender groups in iCal while using iCloud?

Is it possible to retain calender groups while using using iCloud?
When i recently enabled iCloud all the calenders on my macbook were transferred to iCloud and to my displeasure, all the groups were deleted, resulting in an unorganised mess. As far as i can tell, iCloud dosent even support calender groups (or does it?), making it impossible to sync these groups to devices. I was able to restore iCal groups through time machine; however, my portable devices are still without calenders. Is there a possible way around this?
