Updates will not finish processing

Start downloading available updates through the App Store for Safari 6.1.4 and iTunes 11.2.2. The process still says that it is "installing--calculating"....been that way for 3 weeks. I believe that iTunes might be the culprit because it says "install in progress---moving items into place" for iTunes only (on the installer icon in my dock). It will not let me force quit or turn off my computer. Per another forum page, I went to iTunes and logged out but that didn't help either. I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.5
