What password applies when signing in to google calendar from Mac?

I'm using OS X 10.9.4 on my Mac and consistently having difficulty signing in to calendar. The error message says...Calendar can't connect to the Google account 'my email address'. It then requests that I enter my password. Neither the Apple ID or my google account passwords work and the message returned says...The server responded with an error.

Can you help solve this one? Thanks in anticipation.

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website.
