My ipod won't restore or update on itunes??

I changed my passcode and my ipod won't accept it. it worked the first few times but the last time it just refused to accept it so I was trying to restore it with I tunes and i tunes will start to update/download the software for my ipod but then a pop up comes up that says to check my network connection and I have to completely restart I've tried this 4 times and the same thing happens I'm nor running Norton and my firewall is down so it can't be that.
