Available Space Inconsistent

Hi All,

I have iTunes 11.3 (54) on Mavericks 10.9.4 and an iPad Air using 7.1.2 iOS.

When the iPad is connected to iTunes, iTunes reports the available free memory as 1.6 GB and the iPad reports 2.9 GB memory available why is there a discrepancy?
