Soundflower, Logic Pro X and Ustream
I broadcast a show on Ustream in which I play the saxophone against trax that I have
loaded into iTunes. I play the sax into an apogee USB mic. I also use that same mic
to talk to the audience while trax are playing, at which time I need to adjust the level of the track
and the mic. I’m working on a Mac Pro with Logic Pro X.
Up until now, here’s what I’ve been doing.
In Mac Audio Midi Setup:
I set the output device in Audio Midi Setup to Soundflower (2ch).
I set the input device in Audio Midi Setup to Mic.
In Logic Pro X:
In preferences I set the input device to Mic, and the output to
to Soundflower (2ch)
In Ustream:
I set the input to Soundflower (2ch)
For monitoring:
I set the Soundflowerbed desktop app to route from Soundflower to Built-in Output which I then
listen to on my headphones as I do the show.
This works, in a fashion, but is extremely awkward, in that the only way to lower the music track levels when I want to speak on the mic is by lowering the slider on iTunes.
Here’s what I want to do, but can’t yet figure out, despite many attempts:
I want to route both the iTunes and the mic into Logic Pro X.
I want to be able to mix both the mic and the trax in Logic Pro X and then
output it into Ustream for broadcast.
I also want to be able to monitor the mix though my headphones.
I’ve tried creating aggregate devices and multi-output devices but can’t seem to get what i want.
The permutations I’ve tried and the problems are too numerous and varied to list here.
But I’d appreciate any ideas on how to accomplish running a system + mic input into logic,
mixing in there, and then piping the combined trax out through Ustream.
Thanks.
