Logic Remote on iPad Air will not stay connected

Brand new iPad Air. Late 2013 iMac OSX 10.9.3

Logic Remote (LR) connects for a second (at best) and will not function.

Have tried both connecting via WiFi and Bluetooth (also independently of each other), multiple resets/restarts/power cycles/deletion & re-installations, deleting and re-building Control Surfaces/ad-hoc network created/screaming at it... nothing is working.

The closest I've got to the app working is a connection somehow made ie. it sees my iMac and connects to it for all of a second! (and it continually disconnects and tries to reconnect - even says "poor wifi" when I'm connecting via bluetooth ...go figure!) then when I press play in Logic Pro X (LPX) the transport window on the LR app displays the elapsed time but will not allow me any control over faders or anything else (and then states connection errors/issues) ...shocking. Considering Apple stuff is supposed to "just work" and be compatible instantly with little effort - this is extremely frustrating as I've been at it for the best part of a day now trying to sort it out!

Any ideas/suggestions/solutions (preferably)

Cheers!
