I have a MacBook Pro backed up by a Lacie Hard Drive. I recently purchased a second MacBook Pro. Can I back it up on the same Lacie Hard Drive or must I purchase a second separate one?

Make certain that the external HDD has sufficient capacity to store from the two Macs.
While it's absolutely possible to backup both computers to the same external hard drive (assuming its storage capacity is sufficient), I would strongly recommend buying a second external drive with sufficient capacity and backing up both computers on it as well.
External drives fail, just as internal ones do, and having (at least) two backups of your data is highly recommended.
Large capacity external drives aren't that expensive these days, and your data is worth a lot more than an external drive would cost.
