Not sure where I downloaded it or how it got on my computer but advertisements frequently appear on nearly every webpage I click on. It's really irritating, if anyone else is having the same problem or has had it in the past could they help me ? Advertisements appear and words are highlighted with links to surveys when I click on them.

Delete the "MacSmart" extension.
Oh, you might check the Extensions you have installed in Safari. If there is a MacSmart extension, then uninstall it.

Wrong. As previous posters already established, it is adware. (Most) Anti-virus software is not designed to remove adware.

It is NOT a virus, and Avast will cause far more troubles than it will fix.
